Kailua-Kona is a quaint coastal town on the west coast of Hawaii Island beneath the beautiful Ko'olau Mountain Range. A popular vacation spot for former presidents and their families, the beauty of this coastal community attracts many tourists and locals. Kailua-Kona has the feel of a small town and is close to pristine white sandy beaches and crystalline waters. Miles of beautiful beaches stretch from Kailuana south to Kailua Beach. As you move farther from the shore, the terrain offers stunning mountainous views. 

Kailua-Kona offers the best of both worlds—a quaint, peaceful community offering idyllic vacation-style living close to the lively and urban city of Honolulu. Despite its popularity, this town has maintained its easygoing personality. Major hotels and shopping centers are located here, as well as charming, small-town features like family-run farmer’s markets and cafes. 
 
Kailua-Kona is also a popular spot for military households, as its location is close to the Kaneohe Marine Corps Base.

Downtown Kailua-Kona is the epicenter of the Big Island's west side. With easy access to eateries, cinemas, grocery stores, and shopping centers, the downtown area has several amenities within walking distance.

Look no further than Ali'i Gardens Marketplace for a prime shopping experience. There are many stores in this shopping mecca, ranging from souvenirs to luxurious jewelry and art. Only locally-made goods are allowed here, which makes this a sustainable market and unique market.

Located along the picturesque waterfront along Ali'i Drive, Kona Inn Shopping Village features a wide range of wonderful establishments. As you wind through the village, you’ll find coffee and snack shops, artisan galleries, surf shops, jewelry stores, and clothing stores.

On the Rocks has a wide array of delicious treats prepared with fresh ingredients and made to perfection. With live entertainment each night, this restaurant features some of the island's most passionate and talented musicians. 
 
If you are looking for an authentic bar and grill that serves American seafood, tropical cocktails, and Hawaiian specialties, head to Quinn's Almost by the Sea. Things to Do

Kailua-Kona is the perfect spot for sunny outdoor adventures. Hulihe'e Palace was the former vacation house of Hawaiian royals but was later turned into a museum. It now showcases various artifacts from King Kālakaua's era, featuring exquisite koa wood furniture, Hawaiian quilts, portraits, and other royal items.
 
Add Mountain Thunder Coffee Plantation to your itinerary. This popular attraction offers several tours and experiences that will capture the attention of coffee lovers. 

The annual "I Love Kailua" block party features local food vendors, arts and crafts, training and community organization stalls, and entertainment for people of all ages. All funds collected at this event go towards various town projects in Kailua. 

If you're looking for an authentic luau in Kailua-Kona, the Island Breeze Luau is an excellent pick. Situated right on Kailua Bay, this luau features an outdoor dinner and show with a Hawaiian buffet. 

Stop by the Kona Farmers Market. This market is open every Wednesday to Sunday and features over 40 vendors offering fresh fruits, vegetables, and other goods.
